What is a security survey and how can it benefit me?

What is a security survey?

In short, a security survey is the practical assessment carried out by the security professional to identify vulnerabilities against the current risks in your business (or residence) in order to make recommendations to mitigate against them.

This can be defined as:

An in-depth study of a physical facility and its property, environment, activities, and procedures in order to identify vulnerabilities in relation to current and projected risk, and to make recommendations on how to reduce those risks and vulnerabilities to an acceptable level.

When can a survey be carried out?

In truth they can be carried out at any point in time, but they are generally carried out prior to constructing, leasing, acquiring, modifying, or occupying a property, and at regular intervals thereafter.

Who employs a consultant to carry out a survey?

There are a wide range of individuals who contact us to carry out these assessments and no one size fits. A common theme is the unfortunate victims of crime that have suffered a financial loss to their business or home.  You may be a business owner looking to proactively increase your security measures or a homeowner looking to secure you and your loved ones at your residence.

How long will it take?

Time and duration will all come down to you as the client and the scope of works you require to be surveyed. You may operate a 27/4 business or have multiple properties within your grounds that need to be assessed. The scope will be defined in the initial consultation and agreed prior to any survey.

What about my privacy?

Information is only shared with the hiring party, and it is common practice for us as security professionals to proactively ask that a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) be put in place before commencement of any survey.

Will this lead to costly security recommendations?

In today’s world it can easily seem the case from a non-security professional perspective with large companies pushing security equipment insisting that it is the end to all their problems. While we are a big advocate for technology, we clearly know this is not the case and we often find that we can mitigate risks to clients by implementing procedures into their routines. A security survey to us is about taking an holistic approach and offering our clients the best possible recommendations.
